notes about "visit to a small plane"

EF’s Visit to a Small Planet: Some Questions to Ask a Play   by Elinor Fuchs   The article basically tells us how to understand a play, and the author uses "plane" "ball" to explain the way which we can understand the play better. For example, we can describe a play as a ball which is not too big or too small, because we can not only look through the entire world but also some details. it's beneficial for us since we won't lose significant points by focusing on too many details.  The author uses the rhetorical question to signify what should we focus on when we read the play at first. we should think about the stage and music which affect the play a lot. Also, we should think about the background of the play, which means what form of the world the actors appear. what mood leads the play to go through. Is it violence or sad? The author indicates we should pay more attention to the change of the play when we read the play, ...

Romeo- rose Juliet- red heart Friar Lawrance- cross Tybalt-knife Nurse- light Mercutio- gun Capulet- rock Lady Capulet- jewelry Prince-  scales Paris- fancy golden rings        Since Romeo and Juliet are two main roles in the play, so we have to choose them. The reason why I choose Friar Lawrance is that he leads the plot to another way. Or we can say, he paves the way for the tragedy of the ending part. Also, he helps Romeo and Juliet marriage and suggests them a lot. Tybalt represents violence and the hatred between two families. At the same time, I choose Mercutio since these two roles are connected a lot. The fight between them leads Romeo to make the big fault. Since Romeo wants to revenge for Mercutio's death, So he kills Tybalt who kills his best friend. The decision he made under the situation which he is so mad leads the plots to a situation which cannot be controlled. I choose Capulet since he is the man who makes Juliet's change fr...

notes for act5

summary of the act 5 Balthasar when Balthasar enters and Romeo feels so happy since he gets some news from Vonore. Romeo wants to know whether Juliet is fine or not now. Then he got the misleading answer that Juliet is dead because of the poison. He asks Balthasar to prepare pens and paper to write a letter to Montague and says he will come back at that night. then he hires a horse which is the best way for him to come back to Vonore. And he asks Balthasar stays away from him. He wants to be alone at that time. On the way back, he bought a poison which is preparing for his death. When he comes back to Vonore.  At the same time, Friar Lawrance was talking with Friar John and asking him the reply from Romeo. then he realizes that Romeo probably gets the wrong news which Juliet is dead. He worries about them a lot.  Friar Lawrence recognizes that he has to rescue Juliet from the tomb on his own. He sends another letter to Romeo to keep Juliet in his cell until Romeo arrives. w...

10.18class assignments.

it is a deniable topic whose fault for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. From my perspective, Friar Lawrence is the one who creates the large fault for the tragedy. For the reason, he is the who gets educations which means he can totally learn about the consequences of Romeo and Juliet's marriage. Moreover, his suggestions and helps lead the death of them.  when Romeo requests him to help them marriage with each other. He accepts it instead of refusing. He thinks it is the best choice for the two families to avoid the violence and hatred. However, he does not accept how deep the hatred between two families and make a huge mistake.   according to Act 3, Scene 3 indicates “O, she knew wellThy love did read by rote that could not spell. But come, young waverer, come go with me, In one respect I’ll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households’ rancor to pure love.” means he agrees to help them. the quotes in the passage best...

in-class writing

Part one -- In Act 3 Scene 1 who is really responsible for Mercutio’s death: Mercutio, who provoked the fight, Tybalt who stabbed him, or Romeo who got between them? Use specific evidence (direct quotes) from the play to back this up.  In my perspective, Romeo is the main role to take responsibilities for Mercutio's death. To be more specific, when he wants to keep the peace because of Juliet, he ignores that Tybalt wants to have a fight with him. He tried to keep peace and has a talk with Tybalt and Mercutio instead of accepting the challenge.  “I am hurt. A plague a’ both houses! I am sped. Is he gone and hath nothing? ” according to Mercutio's words, it provokes him to fight with Tybalt because of Romeo's peace words.  “ Will you pluck your sword out of his pilcher by the ears? Make haste, lest mine is about your ears ere it is out. ” it means Mercutio promises that he is always standing behind him and protect him. The words indicate his determination....

Les Miserables review

I appreciate that I got a chance to watch a fantastic show about Les Miserables. I learned another way to perform literature----combining music and plots together to perform the main message that authors would like to tell us. Even though I have read the book of Les Miserable, I still created more opinions of the story due to the opera. I can experience more role's emotion due to the music and their acting. The story describes the whole life of a man named Jean Valjean who has been in a Frech prison for 19 years because of stealing bread. After he escapes from the prison and would like to get a new life, his past keeps haunting him. In the town, everyone refuses to help him except a bishop named Monseigneur myriad. However, he steals his silverware for returning. When the police arrived, Monseigneur says the silverware is a gift for him instead of judging his action of stealing. Jean Valjean repents deeply and determines to be a person who is willing to help others. He set...

10.7due Friar Lawrence

I agree with the statement that Friar Lawrence is a peacemaker. Friar as an important role who paves the way for the following plots influences a lot with Romeo and Juliet. He appears in act2 scene 3 which introduces who he is. He helps Romeo and Juliet marry with each other and gives them good advices which are helpful. From my perspective, he is one of the peacemakers in the story because of his personality and quotes in the story. There are some examples below.  In the beginning of scene 3, it introduces that Friar is displaying various medicinal and weeds to his students. according to his quotes, " “Two such opposed kings encamp them still  In man as well as herbs, grace, and rude will;  And where the worse is predominant,  Full soon the canker death eats up that plant", he introduces that there is a plant under the protection from two opposed kings. However, two kings continue fighting. At the end, it will lead the plants to death even thoug...

During my observation of these two families, Capulets are more strict and serious than Montague since through their customs. If I were to stage the play, the first time I will pay attention is customs. From my perspective, Montagues should wear more natural or more lifestyle. Moreover, it is beneficial for them to wear the colorful or informal dress in order to explain their characteristics.  On the contrary, Capulets should wear more formal, darker color to show their strict and violence. At the first scene to introduce these two families, Montague can begin in a party or a beach. Everyone enjoys the music and dance unrestrained. However, The best way to show Capulets' personalities is displaying them in a serious meeting and they are talking about some economics disputes. In my opinion, Capulet is a man who wants to hold power and needs anyone to obey him. At that time, he can arrange work and frown. if there is anyone who tries to advise him to fight with Montague. He...
