Les Miserables review
I appreciate that I got a chance to watch a fantastic show about Les Miserables. I learned another way to perform literature----combining music and plots together to perform the main message that authors would like to tell us. Even though I have read the book of Les Miserable, I still created more opinions of the story due to the opera. I can experience more role's emotion due to the music and their acting.
The story describes the whole life of a man named Jean Valjean who has been in a Frech prison for 19 years because of stealing bread. After he escapes from the prison and would like to get a new life, his past keeps haunting him. In the town, everyone refuses to help him except a bishop named Monseigneur myriad. However, he steals his silverware for returning. When the police arrived, Monseigneur says the silverware is a gift for him instead of judging his action of stealing. Jean Valjean repents deeply and determines to be a person who is willing to help others. He sets up a factory and brings prosperity of the town.
Then, there is a woman named Fantine who falls in love with a wealthy student. However, the man abandons her and she burdens an illegal child. On the way she comes to the town, she entrusts her child to an innkeeper and his wife. At the same time when his daughter Cosette is tortured in their family, Fantine has been caught in the prison and hying. During the same time, Jean faced a serious problem which he admits his past because of saving others' lives. The police sue him and a few days later, he was arrested besides Fantine's bed. The women were dead because of the shooting. On the occasion of dying, she entrusted Cosette to Les Miserable.
At the same night, Jean Valjean escapes and save the woman's daughter. He bought her daughter form the innkeeper. He traits Cosette as his prince daughter. As Cosette grows up, she falls in love with a prison reform students Marui, Ran Ah and then meets with Javier, in the police repression, he managed to save Marui, Ran Ah let the selflessly moved Jia Weier. His daughter marries Marui and his death at the end of the story moves me a lot.
The form of the play differs from others which we used to learn. Music played an important role in the show since it can not only pave the way for plots but also explain the performers' emotion. For example, when the character gets mad, the music indicates actor's angry by using classical instruments in a unique way----ups and downs of the melody. Moreover, there is a plot which shows Cosette is fall in love with Marui. The music calms down and is more slow to show the romantic time. The music changes with the plots transfer. Music and acting bring a visual feast. The audience can not only enjoy the classical music but also experience more about the actors' emotion and plots.
The light is another significant points in the show. When the main role comes in, the light focus on the main role to attract the audience and point out the highlight. Moreover, the lights change by changing of the plots. I remembered there is a plot which indicates Jean's disappointments to the world. The light becomes darker because of his emotion. It can not only explain the plots better but also help audiences experience the actors' emotion. The background of the stage is fantastic which could move and transfer through the plots changing. There is a classic scene which indicates the revolution war. The background changed to the battlefield. I feel that I experience the war with the main plots because of all the elements even though the shot sounds seems like real. Moreover, in the scene the convergence between the music, plots, stage are coherent. I even can not realize when did they alter the stage, the acting attracts me a lot because the plots connect a lot which is easy to understand what's going on.
Instead of other show which we used to watch before such as Romeo and Juliet. The musical show form has no scrips for performance. Because of this, it's hard for actors to explain their emotion through scrips. As a result, they could indicate the plots and emotion through exaggerated actions. For example, when they have to display the happiness, their body languages leads us to understand their emotion by clapping hands and a substantial swing of the body. I really admire that every actor in the show indicates their roles' characteristic very well, especially the little boy. His acting shows us a little boy who is out-going and lovely. All of his actings are natural without nervous. I can hardly act like this since every time I tried to explain my emotion, I feel nervous and care more about the audience, trading of something wrong will happen. However, their acting makes me feel that they are the real roles in the show instead of acting as a role. They lead the whole stage lively.
