10.7due Friar Lawrence

I agree with the statement that Friar Lawrence is a peacemaker. Friar as an important role who paves the way for the following plots influences a lot with Romeo and Juliet. He appears in act2 scene 3 which introduces who he is. He helps Romeo and Juliet marry with each other and gives them good advices which are helpful. From my perspective, he is one of the peacemakers in the story because of his personality and quotes in the story. There are some examples below.

In the beginning of scene 3, it introduces that Friar is displaying various medicinal and weeds to his students. according to his quotes, "“Two such opposed kings encamp them still In man as well as herbs, grace, and rude will; And where the worse is predominant, Full soon the canker death eats up that plant", he introduces that there is a plant under the protection from two opposed kings. However, two kings continue fighting. At the end, it will lead the plants to death even though it gets protection from two kings. he indicates that two plants he describes two plants as Capulets and Montagues will be closed to death if they still have hatred to each other. These two families who have opposite position with each other protect Verona a lot. However, it leads Verona to be filled with violence and hatred. The best way for him to protect the city is to be peaceful to each other. it implies that he hates the violence and hatred between this two families. these two families hatred will affect the city a lot and leads Verona to decay.

Later, when Romeo asks him that he wants to marry with his love. Friar replies "“That last is true—the sweeter rest was mine.” "“God pardon sin! Wast thou with Rosaline?” It implies that Friar has already known that Romeo falls in love with a Capulet. However, he just feels surprised instead of limiting Romeo loves a Capulet. it indicates that he does not care who Romeo's love is, even though it is a Capulet. He is not the same as the other people say that Montagues can never marry with Capulets. it best signifies that he is a peacemaker who tries his best to prevent the conflictions between two families.

according to his conversation with Romeo, "“O, she knew well Thy love did read by rote that could not spell. But come, young waverer, come go with me, In one respect I’ll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households’ rancor to pure love.” when they talk about Romeo's love, he asks Romeo to think about his true love carefully. Moreover, when Romeo promises that Juliet is his true love, he encourages him and be happy for him because he finds the true and pure love which has no connection about the two families. The example best justifies that he is a peacemaker who cares more about Romeo himself instead of his family. What's more, he is proud of Romeo that he falls in love with a woman and wants to marry her instead of marriage with a woman who has been arranged for him by his family. The example best justifies that he was a person who cares fewer conflictions between two families.

When Romeo and Juliet are having their marriage, Friar says "“Come, come with me, and we will make short work, For by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till Holy Church incorporate two in one." he is telling to them that the church will protect them forever. It is a vivid example to justify that he is a peacemaker. Since he promises to help them marry, it also signifies that he stands in the opposite position with two families. However, he is still willing to help them. it implies that he wants to resolve the hatred from the two families through their children's marriage. His help best justify that he is a peacemaker. For the reason, if he is a person who enjoys violence, he will never help Romeo. He just leaves them alone and it will stimulate the hatred between two families.

In conclusion, his words and behaviors all prove that he is a peacemaker. Moreover, he would like to resolve the hartred between these two families.
