Character analysis

My character is Celianne, who is a young lady pregnant. According to the text, she is only 19 to 20. “She looks like she might be our age. Nineteen or twenty. Her face is covered with scars that look like razor marks.” shows that she is young but pregnant. Celianne is in shock from the experienced she had with the miscounted. She and her mother has been raped by those people. So that’s the reason for her to be pregnant. I’m in the boat. There are lots of people surrounding her. They are all elder than her. “ Most of the other people on the boat are much older than I am.” Also, the description of her appearance is kinds of showing her characteristics. For example, “Her face is covered with scars that look like razor marks. she is short and speaks in a singsong that reminds me of the villagers in the north.” It creates the readers of a character who is shy and stayed away from the world. I think it could connect with Celianne’s experiences of raping. Because of that, she becomes quiet and closed to forbidden get into touch with people. Appeartly, she lives in a poor situation, “sometimes the other women offer her a piece of bread an she takes it.”

She had been raped by macotes. She has experienced a lot even though she is only 19. The text mentions that she has a stomach, “she woke up screaming the other night. I thought she had a stomachache.” So her actions seem to be wired in others’ perspective. The narrator stands as a observer of her. Through the narrator, we know her daily life. At the end of the story, they have to through the babe into the river, her actions show what she want. “ Celianne spent the night groaning.she looks like she has been ready for a while, but maybe the child is being stubborn.” Which shows actually she wants to keep her child. However, people around her just see that throwing the child into the river. They are just watching.

Appeartly, she is so depressed and sad because of that. However, she is so weak that she even has no defined back. She just let the woman acting as a midwife and do pray for her child and from people’s perspective. “We had to throw our extra things in the sea because the water is beginning  creep in slowly. So due to the realistic, she has to give up her child. I think she must be so disappointed to the life. So she actually didn’t get what she wants.
