Read the next 2 stories in KK. Write a blog post in response to the first 3 stories. Choose a theme that you see to be common in all 3 and explore what Danticat is showing us or asking us to think about this theme. Analyze 2 direct quotes. 500 words 

“Children’s of the sea” tells a story according to a man’s letter, which he writes for his lover. On the other scene of the play, his lover’s father refused her to marry with the male character, which makes the female character sad and tries to against her father. However, she finds that the man gives up all his possession to protect her from the miscounted. The female character heard that her neighbor was killed by a miscounted. Also, at the same time, the young ladies in the boat where the male character is, also has been raped by a miscounted. After few days her baby dies, she throws it away and jump into the lake. The female character saw a black butterflies and recognized that the male character is died. I think the story best illustrates the theme that everyone is suffering from their own life and even though what situation they are in. Their background and families could not really decide their life. For example, Célinna and the female character’s life both connects with the miscounted. However, they have a such different life ending. The quotes “I don’t sketch my butterflies anymore because I don’t even like seeing the sun, besides, manman says that butterflies can bring news. The bright one bring happy news and the black ones warm us of deaths.” Appears the beginning of the letter. However, at the same time, it also foreshadowing the ending of the man’s death. Butterflies as an symbol shows everyone’s life appears different colors of butterflies.

‘Nineteen thirty-seven” is narratored by joshphine, a woman whose mother is in the prison. The stories tells before Josephine born, she swam across the blood-filled river in Haiti. Josephine’s grandmother has been killed at the time in the river. So every year, they performed rituals besides the river. When her mother dead, another ritual performances takes her to see her mother’s body’s burn. I think the theme mainly presents that usually we will have the same denisity with our families. Actually, joshpine’s birthday is joshpine’s grandmother’s death. So it seems like she has a connection with her grandmother. However, she is depressed because she never understands her mother. But at the time when she saw her mother’s body burning. She kinds of understand from that. There is a quotes said “sister, life is never lost, another one always comes up to replace the last.” Which expresses the main theme of this.

“ a wall of fire rising” tells a stories about a family. It is also talking about their life should suffer a lot  for each one of them. For ecample, in this story, the man tries to defy his hopelessness by stealing a brief moment of glory, even though he knows it must end in death. I think the stories try to express the theme that sometimes when people knows there is hopeless for something. They are still willing to try to defeat the hope. However, in the deep of their heart, they know everything is hopelessness.
