musical review
I have watched the show on Saturday and our actors and actress excellent performance surprised me a lot, Les Misérables is talking a man named Jean Valjean about his whole life. He lives with a life filled with hatred because of stealing. The priest forgiveness provokes him to become a person who is filled with love and generosity. He adopted Cosette and grows her up. He is keeping helping people through his wealthy and kindness. However, when he helps others, it brings risky to himself because of the police would recognize that he was the man who stoled. His whole life is a chase for redemption. At the end of the story, he realized the meaning of life. I have watched the show on Saturday and our actors and actress excellent performance surprised me a lot. Moreover, I have learned a lot through the show.
Comparing with the show we watched before in the theater, It's clearly for me to observe actor's facial experience since the stage is closer to the audience. The lights and musical excited people's mind because they kept changing according to the scene. The beginning scene is a vivid example when Jean Valjean was working with other people in prison, the stage included a normal light scene. However, when Jean Valjean had a monologue to express his emotion, his aggressive and hatred. The light changed to dark blue and there's one light only focus on Jean Valjean. The light helps to attract the audience to his monologue. His emotion combines with the dark stage creates a feeling of desolation. In addition, there's a party scene, which includes lots of characters. They were drinking and talking. The light became colorful and had variation. The colorful lights gave a feeling of happiness and cheerful on the stage. The light could not only explain the character's emotion but be the foundation of the scene. I think it could be used in our scene. When I was speaking out Laura's monologue, the light could also turn to dark and there's only one light focus on me, and then the lights becomes colorful. It could create that I was immersed in my world which is filled with happiness with my glass menagerie. Also, there is also other lights method we could use in our scenes such as Tom's monologue and the fight between Tom and Amanda. The light could change through their level of aggression.
One of my favorite scenes is the party in the restaurant. People were talking, drinking and dancing. The whole stage is filled with happiness. The happiness could infectious the audience a lot not only because of the light but the entire stage details. If we observed it clearly, everyone has details emotion and each of them invested themselves into the stage. So, it brought us a feeling that there was a real party and everyone was enjoying. Even though not everyone has lines, they still have some movements to express their emotion. For example, when they are talking, they nodded their head with a smile or their drunken gait could show that. The stage is entirety. All of the people on the stage even though they are backgrounds, they still have detailed movements to help creates the party scene. I think I learn a lot through the scene since my character as Laura has fewer lines are easily ignoring by the audience. However, I have to express a feeling for the audience that I have put myself in the scene. I should not only nervous with a frown. On the stage, the small ficial experience is not working a lot. The small detailed movements could express more in some ways. It also be used into a lot of scenes.
The music as one of the significant parts played an important role. Each music connects with scene really well. For example, the party happy scene has quick and cheerful melody, which helps shape the happiness. The conversation between Jean Valjean should be angry strongly. The music was kept changing due to the scene. In addition, music gives enough time for them to replace the stage. Significantly, the music's melody raises up due to the actor's emotion. Jean Valjean's monologue could be a vivid example. His emotion becomes more and more aggressive. So the music became shaper and shaper. Sometimes, the music even has the same melody with the actor's songs. So the combination of music and lines brings the character's emotion better and explain the background scene better.
So, I have learnt a lot through the music which helps me prepare my own scene a lot. The actors' body language and their big movements on the stage in the musical taught me a lot. They didn't laugh on the stage. They make me feel like they are the person who they were acting. Before, it's hard for me to express Laura a little, but after I learned from that, the light and music and my movements on the satge could help me a lot to shape the character.
